Discover new classes and summer camps

City of Ottawa Parks, Recreation and Culture Services programs are divided by language of instruction into two guides: the Recreation eGuide and Mon Cyberguide francophone des loisirs
Preschool programs are for kids!

Toddlers learn to share, explore, and try different things. Singing, messy play, riding toys, climbing, catching, throwing, make believe, following and circle time, make these outings stimulating and creative. Be ready for the beach this summer. A swimming class leads to a skill that will last a lifetime. Is your toddler a budding artist, a tumbling gymnast, the next hockey or dancing star? Find out what their interests are in our specialized classes.

Children thrive on fun!

Learn a new skill, make new friends and develop a talent. Fun is a major component of every recreation class. Be creative, active or both! Art, badminton, cartooning, dance, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, improv, Jiu Jitsu, Karate, LEGO®, pottery, skating, tap, volleyball, writing, yoga and Zumba® – just to name a few!

Get active – take a fitness class!

Parks, Recreation and Culture offer quality fitness classes with knowledgeable staff in facilities in your neighbourhood and across the city. City facilities have gyms, aerobic studios, weight rooms, pools, and arenas. Register for a spring class, purchase a membership or drop in today. With Aquafitness through to Zumba®, we cover the spectrum from beginner to experienced, from crawling babies to sitting yoga. Learn a Sport for Life; practice your skills and drills and sign up to play the game. You can count on us to activate your spare time.

Learn a new hobby!

From painting to karate, spring is the perfect time to take a class with a friend or meet people with your interests. Learning a new skill and experiencing different activities stretches your brain and increases your confidence. Learn Spanish for your vacation; take ballroom dance with your partner or teach your dog some new tricks.

Family Time Action!

Spend quality time with your friends and family skating or swimming in city pools and arenas. Drop in for badminton, basketball, or ping pong. Check out the Recreation eGuide for family classes and workshops this spring.

Summer Camps Make Memories

Childhood memories are created from the adventures and learning that go along with making new friends and spending quality time with caring leaders. Kids will experience themed fun in neighbourhood camps, explore new media in arts camps and develop new skills in sports programs. Find the program to challenge that special child in your life and register now to avoid disappointment.

Minto Recreation Complex-Barrhaven

When the Minto Recreation Complex-Barrhaven officially opened on November 29, 2014, it was a proud moment for the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services department, not to mention a welcome addition for residents in one of the City's fast-growing communities.

The $54 million, 160,000 square foot, state-of-the-art complex also became the first recreation facility in Canada to have been designed and built based on the True Sport principles of fairness, excellence, inclusion and fun for all.

Historic pieces of Nepean Sandstone, which were part of the original construction of the Mackenzie Tower on Parliament Hill's West Block in 1878, were salvaged and reused as the complex's date stones near both main entrances.

Now that it is open, the complex offers a range of recreational activities for all ages. Facility highlights include:
  • Six lane, 25-metre lap pool with one and three-metre diving boards, and a Tarzan Rope
  • Leisure pool with jetted seating and a Lazy River
  • Two NHL-sized ice rinks (one rink is accessible), four accessible change rooms, four standard change rooms, two alternate needs change rooms and one unisex referee change room
  • Artificial turf sports field designed to meet CFL and FIFA design standards
  • Gymnasium with a second storey walking track, a fitness centre, and seven multi-purpose rooms
  • 4,000 recreation and cultural programs offered each year
  • More than 175 employees employed at peak operations
  • Parks and plazas and two unique children's playgrounds.
